The BBL, that amazing peach you’ve always dreamed of

BBL

The Brazilian butt lift or simply known as BBL has become one of the fastest cosmetic surgeries. Thousands of women, ranging from celebrities to ordinary women have gone under the knife; now their new and improved figures have been plastered all over media outlets and social media. More and more women are taking the leap of faith and undergoing this procedure. Beauty Warriors dives into the world of plastic surgery and the infamous BBL that has taken the world by storm, read on for more.

Beauty Warriors understands Why?

The popularity of the BBL has soared over the past decade or so; breast augmentation still tops the list as the most common cosmetic surgery but BBL isn’t far behind. This has become a quick and common way for women looking to improve their assets below the waist.

The BBL phenomenon was brought on like many before, influenced and often associated with social media influencers/celebrities. The surgery has spread like wildfire as images pop up everywhere of our favourites going under.  You spend enough time on social media and best believe you might feel like the only person, who hasn’t done one.

Social Media is somewhat to blame

Reasons why the BBL is so popular?

  • Celebrity influences are at the top of the chart. Our greatest influence comes from those we crave to be just like. A few of them are guilty of getting the BBL themselves.
  • The BBL silhouette is an omnipresent and unmissable, the BBL is there to fix what you can’t.  The BBL popularity amongst women has increased significantly; over the past 6 years, a rise of 77.6 percent to be exact according to a survey done by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
  • The surgery can be seen as taxing and dangerous but still so many commit to the operation. The BBL is as a better alternative to buttocks implants, it offers more advantages. The reason plastic surgeons are seeing more BBL’S done, is that it offers a reformed and more curvaceous buttocks with post procedure.
  • The operation also involves removing fat from one area of the body and placing into the buttocks. This can give you slimmer looking thighs or legs, and look for curvaceous from behind. Another area your surgeon could from is your abdominal area, which would sculpt your body’s curves.
  • Rearrange unwanted fat. It is the greatest benefit for all the women, who undertake the surgery. It is fat that is not going to go away, so we might as well put it in a new place. The infection rates are less likely as the surgery is minimally invasive and recovery time is minimal compared to more complicated surgeries.

What about the risks?

Although it is a minimally invasive surgery, like any surgery it can have its complications and these can get dangerous very quickly.

  • Fat, when injected in to the buttocks, can develop into a fat embolism if not injected correctly. This can lead to a blocked blood vessel, lack of oxygen and possible stroke.
  • There are plenty of doctors who are simply not qualified; they simply don’t have the correct medical equipment to conduct the procedure. Botched surgeries are a major reason why the death count is abnormally high.
  • Using injectables instead of fat.
  • Unsterile operating area and surgical instruments.
  • Surgeries happen in DIY surgical operating rooms.

In short, it can be tricky, but it all depends on the patient, do the benefits outweigh the consequences. If they had to find the right doctor, that is certified and above-board, would it make a difference. It is entirely up to the patient, they need to decide what their top priority is.

It’s important for surgeons to limit the risks, their patients to come under and decrease the unnecessarily high mortality rate. There ultimately needs to be a board that can audit and control the operations.

Spring is here! Have you changed your skincare routine

Spring is finally here, we can feel it in the air, this has by far been the longest August month in a while, but we have finally made it to slightly higher temperatures. These changes tend to lighten our moods and give rise to new and improved skin.

There are really harsh temperatures and with the change from hot to cold constantly, it can take a toll on your skin, you might experience dry or cracked skin. With just a few steps you can take your skin right back to a warm sunny spring.

What is different about the season changes and how does it affect your skin?

The harsh cold during the winter months tends to usually strip back the natural skin oils that we produce. That is why winter skincare is always rooted with moisture-locking and boosting towards dry skin. On the other hand, our skin tends to thrive better in warmer weather.

With spring the weather tends to rise and we do not need to keep all that extra moisture we have obtained during winter. By having warmer temperatures we tend to produce more of our natural oils. Stay away from thick liquids and rather use water foaming based products or light and milder gels/creams. Read on to get your 5 tops tips you should change within your skincare routine heading into spring.

Beauty Warriors Skincare Routine Changes for Winter to Spring

Here are Beauty Warriors Top 5 Skincare Routine changes you should make as we end winter, and head into spring.

Spalicious Mask skincare routine
Fig and Pomegranate Mask, Spalicious

We don’t want no cracks when we wearing sandals. A little bit of exfoliation is key, but not too much

  • First and foremost, we want to exfoliate but not too much, make sure all the dull and dry skin patches are removed; exfoliation is there so we can bring life to the new and improved skin underneath.
  • Try looking at light scrubs that can get in those pores and flush everything out, and give you that refreshing glow.

Using lighter products

healthy skin, mask placecol
Cosmetology. Placecol optimum hydro mask

Are you guilty of slathering on those thick moisturisers, well you can stop now, haha.

  • During the warmer months of the year, you may be tempted to opt out of moisturising all together, but that is not the case; we still need to hydrate our skin but instead of using thick moisturizers that could lead to skin being too oily and breakouts.
  • We should rather focus on lighter, moisturisers. These ends to be more lightweight hydrating or even facial serums give you a better option.
  • Finding a skin solution with thinner consistency will allow your skin to breathe and become optimal during warmer months.
  • Apart from your moisturisers, lighten up on your foundation and allow your skin to breathe. Applying heavy foundation can end up in clogging your pores.
Water

Get as much water in, as well as your vitamins

  • As the temperatures start to rise once again we need to keep our bodies as hydrated as possible. Drinking lots of water is one way and another smart option is bathing with Epsom salts and bath oils.
  • Drinking lots of water aids your hydration as well as consuming lots of fruits and vegetables will contribute to healthier and younger looking supple skin.
  • We know spending adequate amounts of time in a bath or shower can dry your skin out; with the right amount of Epsom salts and bath oils, it is a great way to pull of dead skin and release new skin underneath.
  • The steam from the bath water acts as a natural cleanser; your pores are able to open up.
  • This would be a great time to apply a mask for added skin benefits.
  • Ensure your body is taking in enough Vitamin C, try mixing warm water with some lemon to start your day and stay hydrated.

Using an Alternative Sunscreen

  • Though using sunscreen in winter should still be applicable, we tend to use them much less. They are sometimes an ingredient within our moisturizer or addition to a product. In warmer months, it should be a separate product all together.
  • You could probably get away with it during winter, but you need to make sure your skin is protected against excessive sun exposure. Ideally you would want to be using an SPF of 50, that won’t leave you with burnt or white cast. Apart from being burnt you could be left with premature skin aging.
  • We tend to spend a lot of the time outside, so it’s best to be vigilant and ensure your skin is remaining healthy and supple.  Recommended sunscreens are light and non-comedogenic, as your skin will protect itself again breakouts or clogging.
Dirty Makeup Brushes

Throw out any old products and sanitize your existing equipment.

Spring cleaning is an old tradition that should always be in your routine.

  • Remember bacteria can build up really quickly in makeup and skincare products overtime. Don’t allow your products to be exposed to air for too long, if you notice any changes in tone, odor or feel, throw them away. Product build-up is a breeding ground for bacteria and germs.
  • Using products that are past expiry date or have been contaminated can damage your skin, initiate breakouts and clogging of pores.
  • Always check and see how the long the product will be fresh and usable, write down the date you started using the product.
  • Sanitise your tools including; rollers, brushes, sponges etc.
  • If you don’t have a UV steriliser, use sanitation wipes or lukewarm water to flush out bacterial build up.

These steps might be seen as time consuming and inconsequential, but know this, they can have a significant impact on your skin’s health and the after-effects may be damning. Stay fresh, healthy and always make sure you are adapting your skincare routine to the season.

Rejuvenation of your skin and the art of Skin Renewal

Ageing, genetics, sun exposure and acne can contribute to changes in your skin’s texture and appearance. Skin rejuvenation is about finding easier methods of revitalizing your skin to help it look healthier, firmer, smoother, and younger.

Skin rejuvenation products and procedures reduce the appearance of mild to moderate skin concerns. Many skin rejuvenation practices also encourage new collagen growth to firm and tighten the skin.

In this article we, Beauty Warriors, go through all the tips, tricks, and procedures you can use to achieve the ultimate rewed youthful skin! And don’t worry, there’s something for everybody!

What Is Skin Rejuvenation and Revitalization?

Skin rejuvenation and revitalization techniques include noninvasive procedures such as chemical peels and laser resurfacing; minimally invasive treatments such as Botox injections or micro-needling. Certain skin rejuvenation products may be bought OTC and used at home.

Skin rejuvenation treatments and products have been known to treat skin issues such as:
  • Sun damaged skin (sunburn)
  • Scars from acne, chicken pox, corns and injury
  • Wrinkles (both static, unmoving wrinkles and dynamic wrinkles that are influenced by facial movements)
  • Hyper pigmentation (darkened skin, freckles)
  • Loose Skin
  • Uneven or dull skin
Sun-damaged skin

Facial Rejuvenation

Facial rejuvenation treatments improve the appearance of mild to moderate skin concerns and help the face to regain a youthful appearance. You can pursue facial rejuvenation through both surgical and nonsurgical methods.

Surgical methods of facial rejuvenation include facelifts, neck lifts and blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery). Furthermore, skin rejuvenation treatments such as Botox and dermal fillers are also considered nonsurgical methods of rejuvenation.

Farcical Revitalisation

Revitalization and rejuvenation. is the action of imbuing something with new life and vitality. In addition, these treatments aim to achieve smoother skin and wrinkle reduction through the renewal of old dull skin.

Similarly, as we age, the quality of our skin changes, collagen and elastin fibres degrade and our cells become less efficient at producing Hyaluronic acid; (Hyaluronan is responsible for maintaining hydration) this results in becoming dry and rough texture, with less elasticity.  Part of this is due to the biological clock but lifestyles such as sun exposure, smoking and drinking also play a part in the quality of the skin.

Skin revitalization can be achieved and maintained in many ways from as little as not using water when washing your face, to in-house procedures.

Topical Skin Rejuvenation and Revitalisation Products

People with mild skin concerns who would like to refresh their skin’s appearance might seek out OTC skin rejuvenation products rather than choosing a prescription or expensive procedure. Skin rejuvenating creams, serums and masks are all available.

Skin Rejuvenation

Creams and serums

OTC skin rejuvenating creams and serums are moisturizing formulas that contain active ingredients commonly found in anti-ageing products. However, the effectiveness depends on your skin type, the active ingredients, and the concentration of those ingredients.

Ingredients commonly found in skin rejuvenating creams and serums:
  • Retinoids, or vitamin A compounds such as retinoic acid and retinol, reduce wrinkles and fine lines and minimize the signs of aging.
  • Hydroxy acids such as alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) and polyhydroxy acids gently exfoliate the outer layer of skin and encourage new skin cell growth. AHAs include glycolic acid, lactic acid, and citric acid.
  • Hyaluronic acid (HA) promotes moisture retention in the skin.
  • Niacinamide, an antioxidant closely related to niacin (vitamin B3) improves the appearance of wrinkles, helps encourage skin elasticity and promotes moisture retention.
  • Peptides are naturally occurring molecules that help stimulate the production of new collagen and promote a smoother skin texture.
  • Grape seed extract contains anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidants; it also promotes collagen production.
  • Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) protects skin from wrinkles and surface damage.
  • Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is an antioxidant that protects skin from sun damage and free radicals. It also helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by encouraging collagen production.
  • Green, black and oolong tea extracts have anti-inflammatory characteristics and contain antioxidants.
  • Lastly, Vitamin E, also known as alpha-tocopherol, functions hand-in-hand with Vitamin C to promote skin repair and smoothing.

Other ways to achieve skin rejuvenation

Face masks

Skin-rejuvenating face masks are made using active ingredients that have anti-ageing properties and help encourage collagen production. Secondly, Face masks contain many of the same active ingredients as creams and serums; however, they are just as potent a delivery method for active ingredients that rejuvenate the skin.

rejuvenation
Micro-Needling
Micro needling

Micro-needling is a technique in which your cosmetic surgeon uses an instrument called a derma roller on your skin. Moreover, the derma roller’s tiny needles prick your skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production. Furthermore, collagen and elastin tighten and firm skin, helping to restore a youthful appearance.

Initially, over the days and weeks following micro-needling, your skin may look more radiant. It takes several months for full results to appear, and it can take multiple sessions to achieve ideal results. Furthermore, Home derma rollers are available but are generally not as effective as professional micro-needling.  Side effects of micro-needling include peeling, bruising, bleeding, and bacterial infection.

At home natural treatments

Some beauty gurus are proponents of natural remedies for rejuvenating the skin. Some believe that all-natural ingredients are more wholesome and nourishing for the skin.

  • Argan, avocado and coconut oils to replenish moisture
  • Rosehip to moisturize, brighten and encourage collagen production
  • Egg white face masks to tighten the skin and remove dead skin cells
  • Green tea and honey face masks for an antioxidant boost, all helps with puffiness
  • Aloe vera and chamomile to soothe inflammation
  • Coffee scrubs to gently exfoliate and brighten the skin

When using at-home products, always test a bit on your skin and examine the reaction then proceed.

In short, skin rejuvenation is important as you’ll be keeping your pores clean and unclogged. As we change seasons, we need to remove our dead skin cells and have routine treatments to improve our appearance, regenerate and give our skin a fresh look.  It’s maintenance but it’s necessary.

Behind The Exclusive IG Stories – 101 on Sex Toys

sex

Sex toys will be fun but , did you know that orgasms have an array of health benefits like giving you amazing skin. Now ladies, who doesn’t want effortlessly flawless skin? Naadz,

Immediately all our hands shot up as soon as Naadz from Dare To Desire made that statement. Yes, the much-awaited Beauty Warriors Coffee Conversations around women’s sexual health has started. We are answer all those questions with expert opinions, you might be too shy to ask or just don’t know who to ask, whether it be sex, orgasms or what toy to use.

Psst, Are we ready to talk about sex yet?

Generally, South African’s are still really conservative when it comes to exploring and talking about sex.  I am sure your mom or some family member gave you the birds and bees conversation but nobody went into what to expect the first time you have sex, painful sex or discussing sex or sex toys with your partner. We went out to find the right information from three women who know their stuff.

I am having a strong, smooth coffee today, which I think I am going to need; not from the questions I have, but from the answers I am going to get, just joking’. Before I get into introducing the three dynamic ladies on our panel today; I just needed to ask, one of the first questions team Beauty Warriors was asked by many women is,

Compact Vibrator from Dare To Desire

“Where do I as a woman begin if I have never explored sex toys?”

I let Carmen from Play With Me take this one. She explains, “Aaaah, the question I get asked most often in my shop by humans new to toys is, ‘what can you recommend for me?’  My response is generally, ‘I can recommend you all the things I like, but you might not feel the same way about them.’ She goes on to suggest, “The very best place to start is by understanding what it is that you like.

I understand, having started here myself, after being married for 7 years and subsequently divorced that I had NO clue what turned me on or what I enjoyed.

So firstly get to know yourself, do you prefer clitoral stimulation or vaginal penetration?

What are your sweet spots? Do you know what pleasure zones exist in your body? Only once you have answered these questions to yourself can we make suggestions.”

Meet The 101 on Sex Toys Team

Carmen is the founder of Play With Me store for over 3 years, located in Fourways. “I created the Play With Me brand in celebration of my own journey and the discovery of my own inner strength. It’s important to take a refreshing, frank approach to sex, intimacy, adventure and indulgence, whether in ‘solo’ engagements or within a loving relationship.” Carmen explains.

Carmen, Play With Me

Also joining us today is Naadz, she is the owner of Dare To Desire, an online lingerie and sex toy store. Naadz goes on to tell us her story, “I started my business with selling lingerie and moved on over to marketing sex toys. I conducted a survey and found that there is a demand for sex toys. Although this was the challenge as I come from, and service a conservative community; not a lot of people would dare to walk into a sex store and explore. So online was my answer, I am dedicated to providing my clients with sound advice and a discreet shopping experience.”

Finally our third lovely guest, Sabihah. “Women want to be pleased. They want to know, how you set the tone and mood. They also are more open to sexual pleasure and they want to show up in the bedroom as their best version or their best stripper version. Women are realizing that sex can be fun and an adventure as compared to generations before us.” says Sabihah, the owner of Bling Happiness. She goes on to add, we all shook our heads in agreement.  We have always prided ourselves in not being just another lingerie brand but also actively involved in social and holistic community interventions.

What Inspired Beauty Warriors To Start- Behind The IG Stories

Sabihah’s IG Stories (Lets Chat segment) inspired our women’s sexual health series, I will let Sabihah explain,

The Let’s Chat segment that began in April on every weekend first started as a fun place for followers to share funny stories about wedding and honeymoon bloopers.”

Since then it has taken a life of its own; followers reach out on the Bling Happiness Lingerie Instagram platform seeking assistance guidance and help from other women in a similar situation or who have been in a situation that they have conquered. The questions often pertain to ‘taboo’ topics like sexual health, libido, satisfying themselves and their partners in the bedroom. Since then we have discovered that there is a need for education too and we have had ladies asking questions like how would I know if I have had an orgasm?”

Sabihah adds, “One may say it’s easier to use Google however, we believe women prefer to reach out first hand and find comfort and empowerment in that.

It’s gratifying to see that more and more women are trying to become more in touch with their own sexuality and breaking down the general ‘Indian’ or conservative mindset of doing it just for the pleasure of their partner only.”

That is so true, and that is exactly what got Beauty Warriors into this series; answering these questions with opinions from getting the experts, doctors, alternative practitioners, sexologists etc. It is a safe place to give you all first-hand expert advice on women’s sexual health. We found that many of these women were left with a sense of despair, isolation and felt unsupported with nowhere to turn.

Vibrators vs Dildos vs Clitoral Simulators

When I asked the ladies what were some of the most asked questions they had, Naadz replied,

“What’s the difference between a Vibrator and a Dildo and which one is for me?

Let us explain, first up we have vibrators aka vibes or massagers. This is an object that vibrates continuously with different speed settings to best suit your needs. Your new buzzing buddy is used to stimulate your genitals, clitoris and other parts of your vulva and vagina.

Fortunately, it doesn’t end there; vibrators can also stimulate the penis, scrotum, testicles, nipples and even the anus. For those of you familiar with my favourite movie 365 Days, you may want to try out the vibrator that Laura uses.

Moving on

Carmen explained to us what a Dildo is, It’s normally a non-vibrating replica of a penis”. It can be used inside the vagina, anus or mouth and is shaped like a penis. Some come with balls and some without but they generally mimic a man’s shaft.

As we move with the times, the shapes have also started changing to be more discreet and realistic. Dildos can be slightly curved to help stimulate the GSpot or prostate.

Most dildos have suction bases making them easy to stick to smooth surfaces and attach into a harness. ….. Naadz, jumps in, “I would advise that you really explore your options with this one to see which one seems best suited for you and deserves a place in your drawer or safe place.”

She then asks if we could move onto Clitoral simulators, which I was all ears for.

She explains, “This category has absolutely no limits, I’m really not kidding. Anything and I mean anything that can stimulate the clit, which is the most sensitive area near your vagina, can do wonders to your body.

So when you take the step in buying your very first toy, I would suggest investing in a clit Stimulator to Allure Sensuality. This toy mimics oral sex as it targets sensations to the clitoris. Ladies! Your clit really is the start to the showdown, so why not ready the destination of pleasure with some lube and a clit toy.”

The Sex toys You Need To Know About

“If I go into details about the different toys we will probably be here all day long”, says Naadz. Sabihah and I laugh but Carmen with a deadpan face agrees with Naadz.

So I quickly ask my two last questions.

What are the six best sex toys I need to know about?

I so wanted to know from the experts themselves, what they would recommend as their top two toys for women.

Carmen takes us through her list, “For women who enjoy clitoral stimulation I would highly recommend one of my (and my customers) all-time favourite toys, the clitoral stimulator. The Womanizer Liberty is the front runner, as well as the Lelo Sona. These toys rotate vibrating air and stimulate you without having to physically touch you. I’m talking about a one of a kind orgasm in under 2 minutes and multiples thereafter! The nicest part about this kind of technology is that because it’s touchless you don’t get desensitized which is a big plus for me!”.

Secondly, and what will always be a favourite is a good bunny vibrator for some dual stimulation. You ideally want one with two individual motors so you can find the right vibe for you. This is important because some might prefer the G spot unstimulated with the vibrations focused on the clitoris, or both at the same time. It’s nice to have this option to play around with.

Just when I thought we were finished

Carmen adds, “Because I love toys so much…. I need to add a third. The massage wand (magic wand/wand massager) is a great all over body exploration tool and of course, you can incorporate it into your partner play quite seamlessly and without anyone being intimidated by it. The Rocks Off Oriel is my top pick here because it’s rechargeable and waterproof making bath and shower time that much more fulfilling!”

Between all the giggles and sharing, just being open and honest has been so refreshing, the time has flown by.

There is still so much to discuss like anal sex, how to start a conversation with your partner on sex toys,

the low down on the right lubrication to use and so much more. We decided to run a two-part series on this topic,

so don’t miss part two next week!

How to stay mentally motivated post lockdown

Mental health, don't over stress

We have all taken a mental health knock in some shape or form; this pandemic means that many of us are staying at home. We are doing much less in terms of social interactions, exercise and all that we hear is bad news. This is bound to harm your physical and mental health. Our bodies are human after all, we are bound to get affected whether we anticipate or not.

When it comes to being healthy, everyone has a presumption that exercising and a healthy diet is what you need to take care of yourself. However, most of the time it’s attached to our mental state; we don’t realise the extent our mind can have an effect on our soul and how we operate.

Lifestyle changes that can affect mental health

As countries still battle with restricting movement as part of a great effort to reduce the number of people infected with Covid-19, more and more of us have to make constant changes to our daily routine. As we get some respite, we are right back in the thick of it.

Lack of exercise, temporary unemployment, relocation of schooling, and lack of contact with family members have been realities we have become accustomed to.  These lifestyle changes have rocked us; with managing the fear of the virus and sudden changes, times have been particularly difficult for people. Understand that most people haven’t experienced anything like it in their lives, so it can be really challenging.

Hearing about friends or family getting infected or testing positive yourself can be quite tormenting and scary, it is bound to affect our mental health and some point. While we should stay informed; we must set a support structure and manage our wellbeing during these tough times.

Beauty Warriors Tips to combat mental health problems

At Beauty Warriors we believe in helping you with tips that get you the best out of any situation. Looking after your mental health at a time where a potential threat to your physical health lies is more important now than ever.

Fortunately for us, there are plenty of things that we can do to look after our mental health and many others if they need the support.

Tips and changes to make

  • In the world we live in, where everyone is quick to jump the gun. Making sure we receive the correct information is paramount. Avoiding speculation is sure to keep your stress and anxiety low. We need to ensure we are receiving the current news and recommendations from local authorities and the WHO. But stay clear for social media it’s filled with other people’s speculation and anxiety.  We need to ensure we are maintaining our routine and adjusting as we go.
  • Create a routine that you are comfortable with. Balancing your time can be tricky; it is important to be conscious of time management, separating work and home life. Being at home 24/7 can be taxing on the body, we aren’t used to staying at home hours on end.  Maintaining a regular sleeping pattern and regular exercise will keep your body hydrated and sane; trying new relaxation techniques or even a massage to ease the mind. With continuous changes to the rules, we are bound to forget about the small ones; small problems generally affect our mental health the most. However, they still remain; ensure you wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and hot water.
  • Finances are a problem amongst people we tend to overthink and that’s understandable with everything that goes on in our lives.  The pandemic has seriously stretched a lot of people’s expenses. Unemployment is something that is extremely high in South Africa. The pandemic was bound to cause uncertainty amongst fellow South Africans. Making a financial plan and using a budget tool to control your expenses and manage your income is very important to keeping stress at a minimum. Remember we might be saving on transport, but our medical bills are sure to go up if we get ill.

  • Stretch Therapy
  • Body Stress Relief Massage
  •  Meditation
  • Yoga
  • Human Connection- lots of it, use Zoom, WhatsApp video, coffee dates etc
  • Smile and Laugh – even if you don’t feel like it, it produces dopamine and helps your mental state.

Connect and seek help

For some people, these times are very distressing; it is ok to feel vulnerable and overwhelmed. . Trying to anticipate the incoming distress is important. Try to socialise and communicate with others from your house, which could be a Skype call with friends or some online gaming. At times of stress, we begin to panic, allow ourselves time to breathe and ring up a friend if it gets overwhelming.  Keeping active, time management and eating a balanced diet, are all forms of mitigating stress.

To round it off, we need to be responsible. When you are in a pickle, remember it is important to acknowledge your feelings, dive deeper and understand what they actually mean. Mental health is taboo, but why? Try to break down your problems, rather than running away, which might mean seeking professional help. Friends and family are a great support but a life coach, trauma counselor, psychologist or physiatrist may be just what you need.

We should also be aware of the constant bad habits that might take a toll on our bodies. With stress, we tend to overdo stuff, try not to over-drink, eat or smoke, keep it to your usual or try reducing in fact. We know easier said than done but practice makes perfect.

Ensure that all the tips above are practised on a daily with consistency for best results.

Your ultimate Beauty Warrior Winter hair care tips!

Hair Care treatment tips

You’re probably all too familiar with the effects that dry and cold winter air can have on your hair. We’re talking about dryness, static electricity, frizz, and a general lack of lush, silky, lustrous summer hair. Often, exposure to the harsh cold outdoors and repeated transition to hot inside can zap our hair of moisture, resulting in dull hair that is more prone to damage. Make sure you read on for your best hair care tips by Beauty Warriors

Not only, are your valuable hair strands at risk of breakage owing to the dry, cold winter air, but scalp dryness, often known as dandruff, can appear during these drier months. So, how do you take care of your hair to avoid damage and reduce the impacts of the severe winter? The Beauty Warriors team has compiled a list of our favourite winter hair care tips and tactics to help you attain healthy hair this winter.

Beauty Warriors Top 7 Hair Treatment Tips

1. Moisturize your hair and scalp with oil

Indoor heating tends to suck a lot of moisture out of the hair and dry it out during the colder months, producing a dry, flaky scalp. To effectively counteract dryness.

  • Use a leave-in conditioner or add hair oil to your winter hair care routine.
  • Apply a few drops of nourishing hair oil to the ends of your hair every day to help replace moisture, prevent breakage, and leave your hair soft and shining over the winter.
  •  Argan oil and jojoba oil are two of our favorites for hair. Apply a thicker oil treatment such as coconut oil or castor oil directly to the scalp if you have dandruff owing to a dry, flaky scalp throughout the winter months. Allow 20-30 minutes for the oil to soak in and deeply nourish the scalp before washing your hair as usual.
Moroccan oil haircare treatment
  • One of our favourite oil treatments that we love to buy is the Moroccan Oil Oily Scalp Treatment. Which is a professional scalp-controlling therapy to revitalize hair.
  • Moroccan Oil Oily Scalp Treatment is a potent combination of antioxidant-rich argan oil and vital ginger oil. It aids in the correction of imbalances and the relief of irritation in the hair follicle, which regulates oil production. The roots are raised, and the hair gains body and vigour. 2: Avoid frequent hair washes

It’s time to adjust your winter hair care routine if you’re guilty of washing your hair every day. Over-washing your hair will rob it of its essential natural oils, which are more crucial than ever during the colder months to keep your hair nourished and protected. Extend the time between washes as much as possible until you find the ideal wash schedule for your hair—if you wash your hair every other day, try every two days. If your hair is still dry after three days, repeat the process. Dry shampoo can aid with this adjustment by keeping your hair smelling and looking fresh in between washes during hair care treatment. Is there anything else you can do to help your hair if it’s dry?

3: Avoid heat styling

Heat styling is well-known for contributing to dry, damaged hair. Heat style exacerbates the problem; removing moisture from hair strands when your hair is already fragile during the colder months. Embrace your natural hair texture by air drying rather than blow-drying whenever possible and taming frizz with a few drops of hair oil. Also, put your curling iron away for the winter and opt for heatless curls and waves, or experiment with twists, buns, and ponytails throughout the colder months for hair care treatment.

4: Dry your hair before rushing out the door

Even though this is a practice you have in the summer, it is extremely vital to make sure your hair is completely dry before rushing out the door in the winter. Cold hair stretches the hair shaft, making it more prone to breakage and causing colour to fade more quickly. Allow your hair to air dry before heading out for the day in the winter, or better yet, change your winter hair care regimen to wash and care for your hair at night so you can avoid blow-drying your hair in the morning rush. Allow your hair to air dry before going out for the day in the winter, or better yet, switch your winter hair care routine to wash and care for your hair at night so you don’t have to blow dry it in the morning rush.

5: Commit to a weekly deep conditioning hair mask

Weekly hair treatment masks may make a world of difference when dealing with dry, damaged hair, just as a weekly face mask is crucial for healthy, glowing skin. They can not only help to reverse the effects of dryness but can also be used as a preventative precaution to keep your hair healthy and protected all year; to not have to worry too much about hair care long term. Hair masks are a simple, yet highly effective, way to deliver plenty of health benefits to your hair in less than 20 minutes. Think of hair masks as high-powered hair conditioners that soothe and hydrate your hair while also promoting growth, adding shine, and even fighting scalp infections. While hair firms sell a range of hair masks for various hair issues, you may simply go straight to your kitchen cupboards and make your own hair mask.

  • An excellent deep conditioning mask that the beauty warriors are a huge fan of. This hair care product is the Olaplex No.3 Hair Perfector 100ml retailing at R560.
  • A global best-seller, not only a conditioner, which reduces breakage and visibly strengthens hair, improving its look and feel. It will restore your hair’s healthy appearance and texture by repairing damage and protecting hair structure.

This is NOT a conditioning treatment OR a leave-in treatment. Simple hair care treatment where It is meant to be shampooed out of the hair with care. No.3 must process a minimum of 10 minutes. If hair is compromised, 20+ minutes is recommended. Once a week is suggested for healthy hair. For those with compromised hair, we recommend 2-3 times a week in combination with your favourite moisture and protein treatments where applicable.

Quick side note:

Cover your hair in a shower cap and heat it with a hair drier set to warm or hot to help the mask penetrate. Keep the dryer a safe distance away from your cap! To add shine, rinse the mask with warm water before finishing with a few seconds of cool water.

6: Go for Silk

We all enjoy arming ourselves against the elements with our favourite, thick wool hats, and scarves. But did you know they’re also notorious for producing breakage and static hair? Fitted hats can trap oils at the roots, leaving the ends dry and vulnerable. Wrap your hair with a silk scarf before slipping on your favourite comfy hat. It will prevent your hair from frizz and static electricity, as well as reduce the dreaded hat hair. Silk is naturally hypoallergenic, and it has been shown to prevent thinning, knotted hair, and split ends by stimulating moisture. While cotton and wool are pleasant to the touch, their weave holds and tugs at individual strands, causing damage and breakage. As a result, we recommend sleeping with a silk pillowcase at night.

7: Hydrate Honey

Did you know that a single strand of hair contains 25% water?

Hydration begins within and drinking plenty of water helps invigorate and promote hair growth from root to tip. It also promotes a healthier scalp, preventing winter scalp issues such as dryness, itching, and dandruff. Have you ever noticed that when you don’t drink enough water, your skin looks dull and tired? It’s the same with your hair! Staying hydrated will aid the prevention of split ends and brittle hair; this will result in lustrous and brilliant hair.

This is the ultimate guide to overcoming the dreadful winter weather when it comes to your hair. We hope these tips help you keep you looking silky and healthy like your summer hair do!

Tired of boring outfits, spice it up with new leather look

leather skirts

The leather trend is everywhere you look and in every store, you walk into. If you haven’t yet bought a leather fashion piece Beauty Warrior’s suggestion; is to do so now.  Trends come and go but the best fashion seems to hang around. No fabric defines supreme quite like leather; it is a timeless material that is truly complete. Leather offers something that is really quite unlike anything else in your wardrobe. It is the piece of clothing to give that basic t-shirt or cashmere knit, an elevated look.

What’s not to love; it is a material that makes casual look classy, can take your outfit from basic to edgy. Leather has a sole purpose, to stand out and bring the outfit to life. It offers something brands can’t quite match, combining style and comfort and with heat; it makes leather a truly trans-seasonal material. You are comforted by the fact you are making a solid investment, knowing leather will last and be worn often.

Leather is becoming more silhouette, a new defined look

Sharp, shiny and structured is what leather was all about, making a statement. Fast forward and nowadays the secret to the leather being so popular is its versatility. Long are the days where leather was only produced for shoes, couches, and so-called motorbike jackets. Leather has evolved, designers tend to make freer flowing and light leather pieces, allowing consumers to wear pants and feel comfortable. Traditionally it was a hard and structural material; we even have access to leather t-shirts now. Who would’ve thought you wouldn’t sweat in a leather t-shirt or dress.

We were shown to believe that leather couldn’t be worn all the time, but times have changed. Leather is at its peak again, celebrities and influencers promoting experimenting with different leather outfits. The advantage is that you can slay in the trend whether you’re going to lunch with friends or something more formal.

Beauty Warriors Leather Styled LookTips

Pants

It is as simple as pairing a pair of leather pants with a leather belt and a blouse or shirt. We can play around with both the skinny look pants and the wide leg look. For the skinny there are some street-chic ways to wear them:

  • Short boots, long sleeve T (brighter colour). If your pants are brown, tan or black, chunky sleeveless jersey over in either the same colour as the pants or top.
  • White street wear sneakers. Tucked in polo neck and pair with a long knee length cardigan.
  • For a more formal or work look. Short boots or high heels, printed top with a puffy shoulder sleeve detail or interesting neck detail and finish then look with a sleeveless coat either with a one middle or belt tie.
  • Can also be put together with a long soft shirt, short boots, pumps, heels and sneakers work and accessories with long gold chains.

With wider pants;

  • For a more chic look keep the tops fitted and contrast the colour.
  • For a different look try an asymmetrical jersey (either cut slanted diagonal in front or  short in front and long at the back, with a short woolen jacket and add a French barre’ on your head for some extra flare.
It is important to know that when you are wearing belts as accessories always ensure that your shoes and belt are matching, as you can see below in selected photos.
Skirts

Wearing leather skirts in colours other than black can add interest to your outfit. Just as with slacks, team Beauty Warriors would recommend getting basic right if you are nervous use black and then venture out. Add some flavour with different colours of materials. Once you have mastered than then go straight into the colours.

For the short skirt length look:

  • Show them legs and keep a soft flowing fabric with volume for the top
  • Monochromatic looks with top and bottom for the short skirt, it does give it sophistication.

Longer below knee-length skirt:

  • Try purchase a skirt with texture (woven leather, beads, block cut out are some ideas), it gives the look a whole new dimension and it doesn’t matter what you pair with it the skirt is the show piece.
  • Keep the tops body hugging and short, add a short jacket in a different fabric (wool, knit are some ideas) to finish the look.
  • Add a soft fabric polo neck with a print, have one of the print colours match the colour of the skirt and then add fine knit jersey with a solid colour matching another in the print of the polo neck. Both tops should be a snug fit. You can add a belt.
  • Add a belt for waist definition.
dresses

Have fun with this, invest in a colour piece. Purchase a shirt dress, mini dress, tunic, sleeveless shift dress or fitted long dress. Change your accessories, add a scarf or a hat, short or long boots both work.

In short, don’t overdo it. Let the leather do the talking it should be the main component of your outfit. The main purpose is to bring out the best of your paired more ‘’basic’’ pieces. You would never want to do too much and have leather not stand out.

Moisturiser, the ammo you need during winter months

Woman applying make up

Cold weather is tough on skin. Cold temperatures and low humidity levels result in dry air that draws moisture away from the skin. Harsh winter winds and dry indoor heat can make the problem worse and lead to cracked and even bleeding skin. Skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis may also flare up during these cold, dry months.

The skin on your face, ears, neck and chest is most sensitive to environmental changes and are the most frequent areas of the body known to develop skin cancer. These areas of skin also shed cells more rapidly than other parts of the body and therefore need moisture to repair itself, which allows for younger skin cells to rise to the surface. Also, the massaging affect that is used when applying lotion helps stimulate blood circulation and new cell generation.

Applying moisturiser reduces skin problems and can conceal other blemishes

Moisturising every day can help reduce the chance of developing extreme dryness or oiliness. Both Extremes can be harmful for skin, and tend to cause common skin conditions like either acne or eczema. Concealing other skin blemishes is another benefit that moisturisers tend to give off. Using a daily moisturiser ensures that the skin blemishes are camouflaged. This tends to be due to the skin having slight sheen and those with any tint or self-tanner even out different skin tones.

Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise!

The same old moisturiser you use the rest of the year may not cut it during cold and dry months. That said, thicker doesn’t mean better when it comes to moisturisers. If you’re prone to breakouts, you want to stay away from petroleum or oil-based formulas. Look for one that contains lipids instead. Alternatively, if your skin is severely dry, you might try adding an emollient moisturiser that seals in moisture, followed by another moisturiser on top. It is wise a choose a lotion with plenty of vitamins with a SPF or 15 or higher to protect your skin during the day. Apart from that, use lotions are are oil-free, non-comedogenic -(non-pore clogging), allergy and dermatologist tested.

Quick Note

Next time you’re shopping for your next moisturiser, look for these ingredients. Vitamin A and B5 are vital for increasing firmness in the skin and building moisture levels. Anti-Oxidant vitamin C and E help protect new skin, and fight off skin damages. PABA-Free SPF 15 sunscreens help prevent premature lines and wrinkles.

When to Moisturise

The most important times to use moisturizer are after a bath, shave or exfoliation. For some, this might be twice a day. Moisturizing after a shower is very important because we tend to take really hot showers during the winter. Hot water strips all the moisture and oils out of your skin, leaving it parched and dry. While hot water may be relaxing, soothing and simple hack against the cold weather, it also wreaks havoc on your skin. Never skip the moisturizer!

Concerned about your age

Aging can take a detrimental toll on your body. The effects of aging can be clearly seen when you look at a person’s skin. The reason why a person’s skin changes as they age involves a mixture of a bunch of physical processes within the body that are either starting to break down or starting to slow down.

For one thing, your body stops producing as much collagen as you get older. Collagen is key to keeping your skin looking healthy and elastic. Your body starts producing less elastin, and it also starts to produce less hyaluronic acid.

Dr Grandel Retinol Balm

Of course, just getting older is not a guarantee that you’re going to have dry skin. Dry skin also comes as a result of the environment that you are in. The cold winter months make an environment that is abrasive on the skin, making it even worse for the aging skin. Making it the most improrant time to moisturise.

Let’s not forget about the hair!

Winter weather is harsh on all hair textures and types. Just like skin, hair needs protection from the cold to remain soft and healthy. Defend your tresses from arctic air, whipping winds, static electricity, and even indoor heat. Our hair is just as prone to the harsh conditions as our skin is. So It is important to pay attention to our hair and make sure that it is ready to combat these harsh conditions. We’re talking dryness, static, frizz, and general lack of that luscious, smooth, shiny summer hair.

More often than not, the exposure to the harsh cold elements and constant transition to heated indoors can zap our hair of its moisture, leading to dull hair that’s more susceptible to damage. Not only are your precious hair strands at risk of breakage due to the dry, cold winter air, but scalp dryness, dandruff, can rear its ugly head during these drier months.
