The Saxon Spa promises this Signature Journey to be the most sublime experience. Your journey begins with a welcoming milk foot ritual then followed by a full body Himalayan salt scrub, with the immersive Saxon signature scent, to renew your skin. Once the scrub is showered off, your body is indulged with an expert stress-dissolving full body hot granite massage. This decadent specialised massage uses the heat retaining stone, together with rhythmic massage movements, to warm and ease the muscles of tension. A cold Rose Quartz crystal is then used to relieve and heal muscular inflammation.

Red Nomads’ Body Treatment can be experienced at the Four Seasons Spa. This Terres d’Afrique treatment is inspired by the Himba people, an ancient African nomadic tribe. The experience includes dry skin brushing, thereafter a unique body mask is applied with natural African plant ingredients (rooibos, baobab, Kalahari melon, coconut oils) to even out skin tone and improve skin elasticity. While the mask is resting, reflexology is performed on the hands and feet, which aims to awaken your senses. A rich moisturising body butter finishes the treatment.

Willow Stream Zimbali Signature Massage by Phytomer takes you on a sensory journey which relaxes and rejuvenates. This wellness approach incorporates scent therapy to enhance mood. Followed by a deeply relaxing full body massage, focusing on the neck, shoulder and scalp helps to melt away tension, while a grounding foot massage concentrates on reflex and vital energy points. Utilising a nourishing bi-phase sea water massage medium makes you feel like you floating in the ocean.

Want to bring out your best ever skin? Try a deep cleanse facial

The facialist’s secret to radiant skin is out…

Just the near mention of a deep cleanse facial sends most people running for the hills, as they imagine harsh ingredients and painful extractions. But nothing could be further from the truth. Cleansing the skin properly is the single most important step in your skincare regime, and one of the best ways to maintain a bright, healthy and radiant complexion.

How the skin works

Without getting too technical, it’s important to understand how the skin functions every day. The skin is made up of three layers, the hypodermis or bottom layer which is the fatty cushioning layer, the dermis being the functional middle layer – mainly responsible for skin structure and the epidermis being the top layer.

The epidermis (or top layer) is the visible protective layer, where the skin holds most of its hydration. However, it’s also the most sensitive layer as it’s exposed to all the harsh elements in the environment including dry air, winds and air pollution. This can result in an overproduction of sebum which can cause the skin to break out and produce more blackheads or white heads and acne. It can also lead to dull-looking, confused and sensitive skin.

The good news is you can protect your skin and keep it looking at its best with regular deep cleanse facials. Here’s why:

Deep cleanse facials help to:

Promote skin cell renewal. Gently exfoliating the skin through a deep cleanse facial will speed up skin cell turnover and help to slough away dead skin cells, which happens naturally every 28 days.  This will bring new radiant skin to the surface.

Combat acne. When cells from the lining of pores (keratinocytes) begin to shed, they can mix with sebum and clog the pore. This is the precursor to acne. Pores may also appear larger, if oil builds up inside the pores, or if tissue surrounding the pore becomes agitated. To combat this and prevent clogged pores, a good exfoliation plus gentle extraction through a deep cleanse facial wins again.

Smooth and soften the skin. These days, facialist’s use the very best ingredients with no harsh chemicals to cleanse and tone the skin. Steam vapour is often used too, to open up the pores, which makes the extraction process simpler and less invasive. The result? You’ll leave the spa with a clear, more radiant complexion every time.

When to have a deep cleanse facial: Every 3-4 weeks especially if there are visible changes in the skin. For very pustular acne, it’s best to consult with a dermatologist first.

Cost: Depending on the spa and treatment, expect to pay anything from R350.
